Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

Hi there -Been a long time -Huh?! I guess I've kinda lost my blogging mojo + of course busy with the kids and everything = me not blogging lately.
One of the things taking up my spare time is that I joined a book club -We've read quite a variety of books some newer ones like- Janet Evanovich's Wicked Appetite and part of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton. And we've read some older books/classics like The Secret Garden and we just got done with Little Women. We also watched the movies -Which is another part of our club watching the movie (if there is one) after we've read the book. I really enjoy making some new friends, spending more time reading- and so far have enjoyed most of the books. It's just a handful of us -a couple people have moved-etc. so, really looking for a few more people to join (if you're in the Tulsa area and interested-contact me for more info ;)

But, that's not really all I want to write about here - Of course been busy with PTA stuff, my Examiner articles, kids, holidays,-etc.-etc. We had a good Halloween -Trick or treating/Boo Haha-etc. and good Thanksgiving going to visit my in-laws. Which means Christmas is coming up and -It's at my house-Eeek!! I've got the presents and most things ready to go -we ordered a turkey from Reasor's ;) and people will bring sides and pitch in- so hoping it all goes ok!
And I wanted to wish anyone -still reading this -A Holly Jolly Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Not sure if I'll blog more or less- But, thanks for your support! And I've still been reading blogs here and there too- So, hope to see you around :)

MckLinky Monday -Who am I?

Today on The RHOK -Mrs. Edwards is talking about who we are -in the blogging sense and asks -Who are you?" "What's your top searched/viewed posts"?

Well, for me as mentioned on the sidebar and other places on this blog -I am mostly a "mommy blogger" giving a voice for all "The Mom Mayhem" that happens in this parent's life -past and present. So, of course I talk write about my kids and things going on in our lives a lot -But, of course that's not all. Sometimes I might have little tidbits of advice or cool pictures to share.
Another subject I love to talk about are things going on in pop culture -maybe viral videos or the latest tv show.

For instance my most viewed post as of now is The Talk vs. The View and I love how sometimes I feel I've really gotten into the "pulse" of things when say there's a recent SNL parody on the same subject:

My 2nd most searched/viewed post is about the latest Bachelor show with Brad Womack -I'm sure that will taper off now that the show is over. But, yeah that's pretty much most of my top 10 -People searching variations on those 2 shows. Also it seems some people think Brad is narcissistic because there's some variations of people searching that and somehow come to my post -Not sure how that happens but -Oh well.

It's always interesting what people search and end up on here -I'm not sure if it's accidental but, some do search variations of -The Mom Mayhem -For instance- not sure it's me or something a little more sinister when they search "Mom of Mayhem" and come here -But, you never know -Maybe I am making a name for myself - a girl can dream can't she ;)

MckLinky Monday - What do you write about?

Today on the RHOK - Mrs McGillicutty is just getting back from BlogHer '10 in NYC and there was posed the question -What do you write about? Apparently you're supposed to have a concise shpill called an elevator pitch - Interesting! - 1st time I've heard of that. And that is the MckLinky Monday question - What do I write about? ...
It's funny because I never thought I'd have a blog -I've always enjoyed writing -it can be fun and cathartic. After being a Stay at home mom for awhile -I did start this blog though.
And at the time I didn't really know that I would join so many in the "Mommy blog" thing -That's the general category I tell people- Mommy Blog. But, I guess if I had come up with an "Elevator pitch" -I might say something like: I blog about the ups and downs of marriage and motherhood AKA -The Mom Mayhem :)
Of course as I've mentioned before sometimes it's not just about what I blog about but, why I blog -Being a SAHM it's nice to feel relevant and be connected to others that can relate. Of course I've also dreamt that 1 day maybe I'd have some divine inspiration and write a novel that took off (ala Stephenie Meyer or J.K. Rowling ;) But, I enjoy writing here and more professionally on Examiner.com
So, what about you - What do you write about? Be sure to join in the MckLinky fun on the RHOK!

MckLinky Monday -Why I blog

For today's MckLinky Monday with the RHOK -They ask -"Why do you blog?"
I kind of answered this not too long ago when I hit my 1yr. blogoversary(last mo.) -So, I apologize if it's a bit redundant ...

Well, to start I feel that I should mention a few years ago I transitioned to a Stay at home mom. And probably like a lot of stay at home moms I started to feel isolated...
So, I turned to this new-fangled age of online social networking/parenting sites -etc. I thought it was great not having to worry about changing out of my spit-up clothes to socialize -online ;)
I got so involved in 1 parenting site in particular that I was even offered a "position" to help in some of the behind the scenes stuff -I was super excited even if it was a volunteer thing -and I hoped it would turn into a real work at home job. In the end it didn't work out that way -but, I'm grateful for all I learned. I also met some fabulous people -some who even started their own parenting site/blogs -etc. Reading some of those blogs -my perception about blogging changed -It's not just about people putting their personal life -out there- on the internet. Blogging is also about connecting to people and also has an entrepreneurial essence -which appealed to me. So, I took the plunge and started this blog. I guess I always had an idea about sharing things that moms could relate to -"The Mom Mayhem" and I also like sharing tips -etc. too. So, I am glad that I can do that here and also on my Examiner articles. I know I still have a lot to learn since like most of my Gen-X counterparts I wasn't born with a computer mouse in 1 hand and a cell-phone in the other -like the kids nowadays ;)
But, I enjoy blogging and the connections I have made through it - And that is why I blog! :)

100 posts, 1 yr. Blogoversary, and Earth Day!

Hello everyone! Guess what?!

This is my 100th blog post and my 1 yr blogoversary!! It all started 1 yr. ago today where of course I made a post about Earth day -see HERE.
For the longest time -I had heard about blogging but, I was like yeah right -Put my personal info -Just out there -On the internet?! But, I soon learned it's not just about that. Sure it can be a cathartic journal of sorts albeit on a very open forum. But, also for me I also wanted to share other information -to communicate and connect to other people...
Since becoming more active on the 'net during this new age of social networking -I got more and more into parenting websites and the like. Sure, I contributed to a few here and there trying to climb that ladder if you will. But, eventually I started this- my own -"Mommy Blog". As you can probably tell from that very first post I've always wanted to share information to help families-Whether it'd be a useful tip or just sharing something someone can relate to.
And I am glad that I did eventually get a "job" on Examiner.com -Now that is where I post most of my "professional" information; tips. For example my latest article about events to Celebrate Earth Day. I was also planning an article about recycled toys -similar to my very first blog post. But, alas busy-ness and procrastination has kind of taken over that for now -Oy.

I guess I'm kinda blabbing on- But, this blog is now more a place for my personal stories mostly of The Mom Mayhem variety ;)
And I appreciate all those that read it! And comments are of course great too ;)
I don't always know the direction things will take -Blog wise, or life in general. Today in fact I'll be out making sure my son gets enrolled for school and we'll have to see how that chapter goes... Anyways,
A BIG THANK YOU to all of you- for your support! And have a Happy Earth Day!!!

The Friday Five

In today's edition of The Friday Five -I'm taking inspiration from Facebook. You might occasionally see people have their status's as some kind of little game -For instance this week people looked up their name in urbandictionary.com and posted what it said-I thought that was pretty fun- So, here's 5 things related to this blog according to urbandictionary.com

1. Being a mommy blogger and the word mom being in my blog here's- Mom: The woman who loves you unconditionally from birth, the one who puts her kids before herself and the one who you can always count on above everyone else.

2. Mayhem: Norweigan metal band. Famed more for stabbings than music.

I can assure you that my blog is not meant to be named after that ;) Just the occasional mom mayhem for me.

3. Blogger: In simple terms: Derived from weblogger, s.o. who keeps a weblog, a diary on the internet.

But, I have to warn you apparently people who've written on urbandictionary have drank the haterade about bloggers -Saying a lot of things like:

"Term used to describe anyone with enough time or narcissism to document every tedious bit of minutia filling their uneventful lives. Possibly the most annoying thing about bloggers is the sense of self-importance they get after even the most modest of publicity. Sometimes it takes as little as a referral on a more popular blogger's website to set the lesser blogger's ego into orbit."

Ouch! I say let's get some positive things on there-Bloggers unite!

4. Stay at Home Mom: At least there's some positive but, also some negative -Urgh! Here's some of what it says -

Simple version: A mother that stays at her home during the day. Unemployed, usually with the husband supporting the family. The main reason for being a stay-at-home mom is to raise children better.

I liked this 1-It was a bit lengthy so, I've cut some out: A woman who is capable of taking on children, home and husband. She is a strong woman who can handle anything that comes her way. Let me tell you, staying home with children 24/7, never being able to socialize with other adults without any children around is MUCH more exuasting. Most stay at home moms aren't rich. Sometimes it's cheaper to stay home than to pay for daycare.

And then some of the negatives: A stay at home mom is a white, upper middle class woman who: -thinks anything that is not white, upper middle class is inferior and/or evil
-thinks her children need her up their asses 24/7
-crucify working moms for not spending enough time with their children, but find it perfectly acceptable for a man to forgo time with their kids for their career (sexists hypocrites)
-max out their hubby's credit card at Talbot's, the hair salon, and buying a big ass SUV or mini van

Yikes! -That 1 was also lengthy so, I cut some out. Obviously there's some points I disagree with on that-again with the haterade.

5. And for the 1 that started it all -Looking up my name -Angela:

Small, short catlike person. Very easy to tease, but there's no reason to tease an Angela because they're very sweet. You can trust an Angela. Often, Angelas need a hug. Give your Angela a hug today.

I like that 1 -There's a few good ones -I also like this one:

a) Petite, hazel eyed young lady with a lovely smile and lovely body, who is nice to everyone she meets.

b) An amazing girlfriend

c) Pure sexiness in female form

So, that's it for today's Friday Five -Don't forget to Wear Red today and have a good weekend!
